ClariFix® Q & A

What is ClariFix?

ClariFix cryotherapy is a treatment that the Atlanta ENT, Sinus & Allergy Associates, P.C. team uses to treat nonallergic rhinitis.

Chronic nonallergic or vasomotor rhinitis is a condition that occurs when nerves malfunction and send too many signals to your nasal passages. These signals trigger postnasal drip, swelling, and a runny nose.

Unlike allergic rhinitis, this condition isn't due to an allergy, so it isn't always treatable with antihistamines, steroids, or immunotherapy.

ClariFix applies cryotherapy (cold) to the dysfunctional nerves to interfere with the messages they send to your nose. As a result, you should experience a noticeable improvement in your chronic rhinitis symptoms.

The entire process takes about one-half to one hour, so it's far less time-consuming. Your recovery is also much faster, with patients able to get back to normal activities the day of and at the latest the day after their ClariFix procedure.

What does ClariFix treatment feel like?

At the start of your ClariFix treatment, your provider at Atlanta ENT, Sinus & Allergy Associates, P.C. uses a local anesthetic to numb your nose, so you don't feel any pain. They might also give you a sedative to keep you calm and relaxed.

They insert the ClariFix device into your nose and apply the cryotherapy to the nerves, cooling them rapidly with nitrogen gas. You might be aware of some slight pressure and a feeling of coldness in your nose and possibly your teeth.

After your treatment, which takes about 30 minutes, you might experience a little discomfort, but over-the-counter pain relievers should take care of it.

How long does it take for ClariFix to work?

You might not find much difference immediately after your ClariFix treatment. It can take 2-6 weeks for the results of your treatment to become apparent.

After six weeks, you should find your symptoms of nasal congestion and runny nose decrease significantly. This improvement is typically long-lasting as well, with most patients reporting that their symptoms carry on improving for around a year.

You probably won't need more than one ClariFix treatment, but it's safe to have more if necessary.

Am I a good candidate for ClariFix treatment?

If you experience nasal congestion, postnasal drip, frequent throat clearing, or a chronically runny nose, and you aren't getting any relief from your symptoms with other treatments, you could be a good candidate for ClariFix.
