VivAer/RhinAer® Q & A
What is VivAer/RhinAer®?
VivAer/RhinAer® is a cutting-edge approach to treating nasal congestion or a blockage in your nasal passages that affects your ability to breathe through your nose.
Before VivAer/RhinAer®, if you suffered from chronic congestion, you might have had to undergo surgery to achieve lasting relief from your symptoms.
VivAer/RhinAer® relieves congestion and provides long-lasting results without the need for invasive surgical procedures. Your recovery after VivAer/RhinAer® should also be far quicker than it would have been with surgery.
How does VivAer/RhinAer® work?
VivAer/RhinAer® works using radiofrequency energy. Instead of cutting the swollen mucous membranes out of your nose surgically, VivAer shrinks them.
Your provider at Atlanta ENT, Sinus & Allergy Associates, P.C. inserts a slim tool called a nasal stylus into your nasal cavity, then delivers hot and cold radiofrequency waves to the swollen tissues in your nose.
When might I need VivAer/RhinAer® treatment?
You might benefit from VivAer/RhinAer® if you have nasal obstruction or congestion in your nasal passages, and your symptoms aren't improving with other treatments.
Nasal obstructions are blockages in your nasal passages. They can be caused by tissue inflammation when you have an infection or a condition like chronic sinusitis. Or they might be due to a problem with the structures in your nose.
A deviated septum is the most common kind of nasal obstruction. The septum is the structure that divides your nasal passages. If it isn't straight and even, it can block one or even both of your nasal passages.
Other obstructions include enlarged turbinates (tissue in the sides of your nasal cavities), nasal polyps, and tumors.
Why should I consider VivAer/RhinAer® treatment?
VivAer/RhinAer® treatment is an in-office procedure that doesn't involve any incisions, stitches, general anesthetic, or downtime. The treatment causes minimal discomfort, and you can go about your business as normal afterward.
Most of the patients who undergo the VivAer/RhinAer® procedure experience significant reduction in congestion and increased ability to breathe through their nose. They enjoy better quality sleep with less snoring and are more physically active once they can breathe through the nose.
The entire process takes about one-half to one hour, so it's far less time-consuming. Your recovery is also much faster, with patients able to get back to normal activities the day of and at the latest the day after their VivAer procedure.
